The Firm

The firm of Torevell Dent was formed in Halifax during April 1986 by Mike Torevell and Ian Dent. The firm quickly became established and acknowledged as providers of high quality advice by its clients, Banks, Inland Revenue and other local professionals. Recognising that business owners preferred to be dealt with by Senior Professional Advisors at locations close to their businesses it was decided to expand the firm by opening new offices with quality local expertise, and so, during March 1990 the firm opened an office in Huddersfield, a further office in Bradford during October 1992 and late in 2009 expanded further by opening an office in Leeds. 

To be able to draw on such a wealth of in-house experience gives our clients a great advantage over clients of other small independent Accountancy Practices and brings the expertise of "City Practices" to local businesses.

The firm is an approved Training Practice for ACCA students, has been awarded Investor in People status and has a dedicated team suitably qualified to meet the needs of any client in the West Yorkshire area, and beyond.

MIKE TOREVELL FCCA, ACMI, AIBA
Mike trained with a local firm of Chartered Accountants and then spent some seven years in industry gaining valuable commercial experience. He re-entered the profession in 1980 and, later, with Ian Dent, formed the present practice. 

Mike specialises in dealing with medium-sized companies and in the development and growth of their business.

Mike is a past president of the West Yorkshire District Society of Chartered Certified Accountants. 

IAN DENT FFA
Ian trained with a Bradford firm of Chartered Accountants and then left the profession in 1977 to take the position of internal auditor in a large local company. He rejoined practice life in 1980 forming the present firm with Mike Torevell in 1986. 

Ian has now succumbed to the benefits of early retirement but he still remains available to the firm on a consultancy basis. 

MICHAEL B. FOX FCA, FCCA
Michael trained with the same firm as Ian Dent and gained promotion to the level of Senior Manager of a "big four" firm. After a short spell in industry he reforged his links with Ian Dent and joined Torevell Dent in October 1992 as partner in charge of the Bradford office. 

Michael now heads up our Audit Department and also deals with Charity and Pension Fund accounts. 

PHILIP H. LISTER
Philip began his career with the Inland Revenue before joining Torevell Dent in 1991 to set up a dedicated taxation department specialising in personal and corporate tax advice and mitigation. 

Philip now has responsibility for the information technology systems within the group. 

SAMANTHA SUTCLIFFE FCA MAAT
Sam began her training with a small local firm of Chartered Accountants and qualified in 1998. Following qualification Sam joined a six partner firm based in Leeds City centre and gained valuable experience dealing with a wide range of clients and becoming the Senior team member in some of the larger audit assignments.

Sam joined Torevell Dent in 2003 as a Senior Accountant and since then has been responsible for most of the firm’s statutory audit clients.

Sam was appointed a director of the firm in April 2008.

DAVID JACKSON (Manager)
David also began his career with the Inland Revenue and was appointed Head of the Tax Department at a well established firm of Chartered Accountants in Halifax where he met Mike Torevell. David became an equity partner in another local firm of accountants in Halifax and maintained his links with Mike, and in 1992 his firm merged with Torevell Dent. Since that time David has been influential in the development of the Huddersfield office where he exercises his experience and wide range of talents as the Practice Manager.
